Russian Foreign Minister to Attend 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Phnom Penh

PHNOM PENH: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will attend the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting, and other related meetings, to be held from 31 July to 6 August 2022, in Phnom Penh.

According to the AKP, Cambodian Foreign Minister, DPM Prak Sokhonn, confirmed that he had sent invitations to the foreign ministers of 38 countries, including Russia. The Russian Embassy in Cambodia has also confirmed the participation of Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

DPM Prak Sokhonn stated that Russia is one of ASEAN’s dialogue partners, and is also included in the agenda of the ASEAN-Russia meeting. More importantly, he added that Cambodia is a coordinating country between ASEAN and Russia, and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in addition to attending the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers 'Meeting and related meetings, will also co-chair the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting on ASEAN and Russia.

The DPM said that some countries have responded to Cambodia’s invitations, and some countries still have not because the foreign ministers have very busy schedules. Delegates set to attend the 55th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting, and related meetings, from 31 July to 6 August, so far comprise of 38 countries. Including Cambodia, there will be delegates from a total of 39 countries present. This includes 27 countries participating in the ASEAN Regional Forum and 12 ASEAN guest delegations.
